PU.RO. Earned the Global Recycled Standard Certification: a Step Ahead for a More Sustainable Footwear Industry
PU.RO.’s achievement of the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certification reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to responsible manufacturing and to the principles of sustainability and the circular economy.
What is the GRS
The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) is a voluntary international benchmark developed by Textile Exchange. It verifies the percentage of recycled material and tracks it from the recycler to the final product. In addition, social, environmental and chemical criteria related to processing are required.
Originally created for the textile industry, the GRS is now expanding into injection molding for footwear, with the aim of promoting the use of recycled materials and reducing the consumption of primary resources such as virgin raw materials, water and energy.
Guarantee by Chain of Custody
At the core of GRS is the Chain of Custody, a verification and management system that ensures the traceability and integrity of materials from input to final product.
Within the broader framework of Textile Exchange’s standards (such as RCS and OCS), the Chain of Custody is governed by the Content Claim Standard (CCS). This standard ensures that every organization involved preserves the identity and integrity of certified materials throughout the production journey.
This process is validated by two key certifications issued by accredited bodies: the Scope Certificate (SC) and the Transaction Certificate (TC).
Why GRS matters
In the shoe sole molding for premium and luxury fashion segments, sustainability is a key asset and an essential marker of quality, credibility and competitiveness within the footwear industry. As more brands require certified processes from their suppliers and recycled materials, GRS certification strengthens trust and collaboration across the value chain.
Achieving GRS certification means:
- verified recycled materials, fully traceable processes and an audited supply chain aligned with international standards;
- continuous improvement, waste reduction and more efficient resource management.
For us, this certification represent an important step forward in our sustainability journey. It enables us to offer our partners reliability, transparency and long-term sustainable value, actively contributing to a more responsible fashion industry.
